A cloud of dust from the Sahara desert entered the country on Thursday, which will bring a decrease in rain, according to the National Meteorological Institute (IMN).
According to IMN meteorologist Eladio Solano,
the current state of weather is being affected by the dust of the Sahara directly in the cloudiness; for which the rains will be depleted and little visibility is maintained.”
According to Solano, these conditions will be maintained until Friday.
Since yesterday afternoon, the red clouds in the sky in the capital city signaled the presence of a heavy load of aerosols in the air, specifically the well-known ‘dust of the Sahara’,” which in addition to making the atmosphere opaque, also makes it dry and hot.
A negative effect of this phenomenon is on health, since it exacerbates respiratory diseases, such as asthma and allergies.
The Pan American Health Organization recommends in these circumstances the use of masks by people with chronic respiratory diseases, older adults, pregnant women and children; as well as covering the water sources, wells, containers or storage tanks, to avoid their contamination,”
