Government resorts to Korea to promote Social Economy plans

July 9, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The government turned to the support of Korea to promote its Social Solidarity Economy plans. This week a group of 60 officials from different Korean institutions is visiting the country to explore cooperation in this field.

The delegation of Koreans will hold meetings with government leaders and cooperatives. In addition, on Thursday. an agreement will be signed between the local governments of both countries and the Municipal Development and Advisory Institute to promote collaboration.

The Korean delegation is led by Chon Won O, mayor of Seoul’s Seongdong-gu district.

The solidary social economy is seen as the economic and business activities carried out in the private sphere by entities and organizations, to satisfy the collective interest of those who integrate them and the general, economic and social interest of the territories where they are located.

Since the beginning of this administration, the government of Carlos Alvarado has wanted to give another approach to this idea, because in the previous administration, the political, business and cooperative sectors showed their concern for the projects promoted by Solís along with the former legislator Víctor Morales Zapata.

The government and the Popular Bank of Community Development ruled out trying to revive the momentum of the draft Social Solidarity Economy Framework Bill proposed by Morales Zapata.

In the current administration the person in charge of the subject is the vice president, Marvin Rodríguez.
