September 30, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The musical theater of the United States can be enjoyed for free in the country thanks to the visit of young artists from High Point University as part of the “Promising Artists of the 21st Century 2019” season, produced by the North American Costa Rican Cultural Center (CCCN).

This program is responsible for bringing outstanding young university artists to Costa Rica, who are true promises of the art world of the 21st Century, in order to generate a link and an exchange between Costa Rica and the United States, through art and culture.

The theater group from North Carolina is made up of four young students, singers, vocalists and musicians, who have stood out for their talent from an early age (Madison Steiner, Demetria Hale, Jerry Hurley and Corbin Elliot). They are accompanied by pianist Rachel Summers, and are under the direction of Professor Dr. Scott MacLeod.

The tour will begin in Cartago on Wednesday, October 2nd with a didactic concert at the Culture Center at 10:30 am, then they will provide two functions at the headquarters of the North American Costa Rican Cultural Center in Paseo Metropolis at 2:30 pm and at 6:00 pm.

On October 3rd at 10:15 am the High Point University group will hold a free presentation at the CCCN headquarters in Barrio Dent. That same day at 8:00 pm they will give a concert at the Eugene O’Neill Theater.

On Friday, October 4th, they will move to the Costa Rican Caribbean in order to present a didactic concert at the Limón Scientific College at 2:30 pm

Finally, on October 5th, the musical theater will be presented at Casa de la Cultura, Liberty Hall Marcus Garvey in Puerto Viejo at 2:00 pm with another didactic concert, and at 7:00 pm with a closing function. All these events are open to communities and free.

One of the most representative artistic expressions of the United States of America is undoubtedly the Musical Theater. In this show, the public will be able to enjoy scenes from the musical Waitress, Wicked, Next to Normal, Once and Dear Evan Hansen, ”

said Rodrigo Durán, coordinator of Performing Arts at the CCCN.

The Promising Artists of the 21st Century program is supported by the United States Embassy and private company.
