October 16, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The country has a new Biomedical Research Center, which will enhance scientific contributions in health.

This center, jointly built between the Costa Rican Agency for Biomedical Research (ACIB) and Fundación Inciensa (Funin), will be inaugurated on Friday, October 18th, at Finca La Flor, located in Liberia, Guanacaste.

According to Dr. Paula González, Director of ACIB, this project will provide the necessary infrastructure for national researchers to participate in studies with high scientific standards and quality.

The investment was 2.2 million dollars and it constitutes a case of success in the fields of international scientific cooperation and technology transfer.

This center will work on the development of studies such as Escuddo, which seeks to measure the effectiveness of doses against the Human Papillomavirus; in addition, it will provide scientific support service, through information technology centers, documents, biobanks, laboratories and others.

The new infrastructure represents an important source of employment in the region. Once in operations, 63 jobs will be active, however, future research projects that may be generated will allow an increase in the workforce.
