Costa Rica rejects possibility of hosting COP25

October 31, 2019 by Staff News Writer

Costa Rica stands out as the possible host of COP25, after the Chilean government announced that it will not hold the summit due to the turbulent situation in that country.

After hearing the news, the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) said that the organization of a conference of this level, has a long logistic process that takes months to prepare.

Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, Minister of Minae, indicated that:

We, as PreCOP25 Headquarters, are Chile’s partner in this process and we are in conversation with their team, in their role as incoming COP Presidency. We will support the decisions made in order to find a successful alternative for the realization of COP 25 soon.”

Costa Rica maintains its historic commitment to the international process of climate change negotiations and will contribute whatever is within its reach with multilateralism as a way to respond to the climate crisis, the statement concludes.
