Private sector celebrates approval of law to fight plastic consumption

November 1, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The Costa Rican Union of Chambers and Associations of the Private Business Sector (Uccaep), celebrates the approval of the law to fight plastic pollution and protect the environment, approved on Thursday. This was communicated through a statement.

With 39 votes in favor, the Congress approved in second reading bill 20,985 to fight single-use plastic pollution.

From the Union of Chambers, as a socially responsible sector, we are aware of the problem of waste management and we believe that these are steps in the right direction to reduce plastic pollution,”

said the institution.

Even as a sector, they proposed that the country work on having other tools that promote the obligation of municipalities to carry out a separate collection of waste, in order to ensure an adequate disposal.

In addition, the UCCAEP recommends that the State guarantee access to waste collection services in those communities that do not have this service, as part of those important steps to ensure a true circulation and maximum use of valuable waste.
