Prosecution asks 70-year prison term for a father who killed his 2 babies

May 22, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Prosecution office of Hatillo requested a 70-year prison sentence for a man identified as Ronald Jacob Esquivel Rojas, whom is being accused of murdering his two babies.

Esquivel, 27 years old, is accused of being responsible of killing his 15-day old son, in 2011, and his 4-month daughter, in 2014.

The mother of the second baby, identified as Karol Cubillo Mora, is also facing a 35-year prison sentence for murder. The woman wasn’t the mother of the first deceased baby.

The 15-day old baby died of wounds in the head, severe brain swelling and cerebral damages caused by lack of blood and oxygen.

The second murder happened in October 2014 at Los Filtros de Alajuelita. Allegedly, Esquivel and Cubillo systematically beat up the baby causing her wounds in the head, thorax, necks, arms and legs. On October 25, 2014 the baby died of multiple wounds at the National Children Hospital.

The defense lawyer of the woman accused claimed she should be absolved because she was subject to coercion and threats by her couple.
