App workers burn bags in protest

November 26, 2019 by Staff News Writer

A video shows the moment when delivery workers of the Glovo app burn the bags in protest to the claims they have been making since last week. The app’s collaborators took to the streets, this time near San Pedro de Montes de Oca, to show their discomfort. They had previously taken the General Cañas highway.

The images show how several workers set fire to the bags with which they usually transfer customer orders.

“Judas! Down with Glovo!” were some slogans of the protesters during the burning.

In recent days, an anonymous source informed CRHoy.com that Glovo constantly changes their working conditions. The source said that apparently the technology platform requires them to work 10 continuous hours, although they are the ones who put the motorcycle and the implements to travel. As for the hours worked, they are not promised that they will receive delivery orders. They may not even have any during the workday.

There are several irregularities, they give us 10 hours of work, we provide the motorcycle and still have to choose the hours to work. In addition, we have a rating, so if we don’t work the hours they say, they lower the score; which translates into smaller orders. It does not depend on the service I give, but on the dynamic hours,”

said the source.

Other complaints that the sector maintains have to do with the company not listening to their requests.

You have to ask for an appointment because the offices are always closed… Once you talk to the representatives (from Glovo), the next day they block you, they take your hours, or they don’t give you trips and distribute them to the newest ones. They decide who to block and at what time. We know that they block us from Argentina. It also works with the monthly fee they charge. Trips are not well paid, they charge. But they don’t give guarantee. We don’t even know how they calculate the charges,”

denounced the person.

The affected person recognizes that he works for the need; However, what they want is to obtain better application conditions.

The company came to the forefront of criticism and in an official position clarified several points.

Every time Glovo makes a modification to its platform, it does so thinking about the future and increasing the benefits for all its users: distributors, consumers and affiliated businesses,”

said Glovo to this media.
