Aserrí, Alajuelita and Escazú benefited with Japanese fund

June 8, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The cooperation project between Japan and Central America, called BOSAI, consists of a fund of 10 million dollars donated by the Japanese government to train the region in disaster risk management.

The second phase of the project begins this year. Aserrí, Alajuelita and Escazú from San José were chosen for the vulnerabilities caused by their urban development.

During the first stage we worked with some communities from Guanacaste (…) to primarily address issues of flooding and earthquakes, especially with children,”

said Shusuke Irabu, expert from the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The fund was achieved through negotiations of the Coordination Center for the Prevention of Natural Disasters in Central America (CEPREDENAC), and it covers communal activities and the expenses of Japanese facilitators in the region and Costa Rican representatives in Japan, who traveled for training purposes.
