Motorcyclists avoid traffic jams and collide with death

June 30, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Motorcycles are now one of the few options for drivers to escape traffic jams, but at a high price. Traffic Police registered 100 road deaths this year.

In 2015 the National Insurance Institute (INS), assisted 10,000 motorcyclists between January and April. In the same period of 2016 that number increased to 11,345. This also means higher expenses on attention to such accidents.

Circulation permits have also increased by 17% between 2015 and 2016, indicating that the use of this vehicle is greater.

Sandra Meléndez, head of the Business Management Department of Occupational Health of INS, said that traffic accidents victims that require most attention are motorcyclists.

The director of the Traffic Police, Mario Calderón, said that the first step to avoid this is in the hands of the drivers, by learning how to drive properly, wearing a helmet and not driving at excessive speed.
