New medical fees in September

July 14, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The College of Physicians postponed for another three months the publication of new fees for medical procedures. Therefore, they will disclose the new fees in September.

Doctor Alexis Castillo, President of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, said the decision to give a quarterly extension aims to ensure that when the fees come into force, there are no substantial doubts for the general public and doctors.

It is important to listen to the medical professionals, insurance companies, public and private institutions and the general public, since this is a matter that raises many concerns and doubts. It is important that people understand the importance of applying new fees to medical and surgical procedures, as this will ensure people who use private health services through insurances that the manual will provide a detailed description of the procedure,”

said Castillo.

This is the second postponement on the new fees. The first one was on May, 18th and it was supposed to last only a month.

The latest proposals generated much opposition, because the increase was about 330% more. For example, the placement of adjustable gastric band will increase from ¢ 818, 410 to ¢ 3,521,910.
