Vice President of the German Parliament visits Costa Rica

July 18, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The vice president of Germany’s parliament, Edelgard Bulmahn, is visiting Costa Rica from July, 16th until July, 20th.

As part of her agenda, the representative of the German government visited the company Flexográfica de Exportación in order to see the results of the program “Energy Manager”, which was developed with the support of the German Chamber of Industry and Cooperation Agency (GIZ).

The project aims to find ways to reduce energy consumption expenditures considering that Costa Rica is a very expensive country for companies’ operations.

Costa Rica received about 30 million euros in donations from the German Ministry for Development in the last four years, to develop programs focused on environment, energy, biodiversity and human rights.

In addition, GIZ allocated 1.2 million dollars in new technologies applied in Costa Rica, allowing to save more than $ 400,000 per year in electricity and fuel.

Over the past 5 years they have trained 150 Costa Rican workers from different companies with the help of 50 experts from the public and private sector.

Bulmahn was the minister of science and technology in her country and she was also part of the policy implemented to transform the energy matrix, aiming to reduce the use of atomic energy and get more out of renewable sources.

This week she will meet with Education Minister, the Ombudsman, Deputy Minister of Energy, and Vice President of the Republic. She will also talk to the President of the Legislative Assembly and a member of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
