13 people were killed in a prison riot in Guatemala

July 19, 2016 by Staff News Writer

On Monday, 13 people were killed in a riot at Pavon prison in Fraijanes, Guatemala. Two of the victims were retired Captain Byron Lima and an Argentinian visitor, confirmed the officers.

Other victims’ identities are still unknown because the criminals have taken control of the prison and do not allow security forces to enter it.

Lima Oliva was serving a sentence of 20 years in prison for having participated in the murder of Bishop Juan José Gerardi. He was also being investigated as the alleged leader of a corruption network within the prison system.
