Costa Rica will participate in the World Robot Olympiad

10 Costa Rican, young people will represent the country at the World Robot Olympiad: Rap the Scrap to be held in November in India.

Through a challenging and educating robotic competition, participants faced challenges related to cleaning, recycling robots that could also play soccer and perform specific tasks. This competition took place in Cártago.

Rolando Rodríguez, mayor of Cártago, said it is very important that such activities can be carried out outside San José because it is a way to promote science and technology throughout the country.

Categories and challenges:

-The first category, A category, was Limpia el camino a la escuela (clean your way to school). Children from 7 years old to 12 years old participated in this section. The challenge was to create a robot that cleaned the way to school starting from the bedroom. The daily routine goes from making the beds to cleaning the playground.

-The second category, B category, was called Clasificación de residuos (waste classification). The goal was to create a robot that collected certain kinds of waste and took them to containers. Teens from 13 years old to 15 years old participated in the category

-The third category, C category, was called “Recycling plant”. The purpose was to create a robot that carried different types of wastes from recycling bins to the recycling plant.

-The fourth category, University category, was called “Robot Bowling.” Students were encouraged to build robots that play bowls. People aged 17 years old to 25 years old competed in this group.
