Piszk asked the Executive to introduce a bill that aims to protect minority rights

August 11, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Member of Partido de Liberación Nacional (PLN) Sandra Piszk asked the Executive to introduce a bill that aims to protect minority rights.

Piszk made the request in a note addressed to Minister of the Presidency Sergio Alfaro in order to advance in the legislative process.

The proposal is that human rights issues related to ethnic, sexual and religious minorities are solved through conventional ways instead of referendum processes where majority expresses its will.

According to the legislator, during popular consultations, the protection of fundamental rights could be jeopardized.

As consequence, article 105 from the Constitution should be modified.

The initiative has the support of three political parties and it has legal basis.
