A bill could facilitate the temporary adoption of minors at social risk

August 22, 2016 by Staff News Writer

A bill could facilitate the temporary adoption of minors at social risk while their legal status is defined.

The initiative was presented by Otto Guevara and Natalia Díaz, member of Movimiento Libertario, Patricia Mora, member of Frente Amplio, Fabricio Alvarado, member of Restauración Nacional and Emilia Molina, from Partido Acción ciudadana (PAC).

The proposal, called Foster Care Act, aims to establish a legal framework to non-institutional care scheme that will allow families to have the right to be taken into account as an alternative for the adoption of children.

By doing this, children would not be sent to institutions or youth shelters where they could be exposed to more risks.

The custody would be a voluntary choice, but families should provide a financial contribution for child’s support.
