MEP: “teachers have no reasons to protest”

August 31, 2016 by Staff News Writer

On Monday, the Association of Secondary School Teachers (APSE), made a call for strike. However, the Ministry of Public Education (MEP) sees no reason for that.

There a teachers’ march on September 1st at 9:00 am. They plan to go from Fuente de la Hispanidad to the Legislature and 20 unions are intended to join them.

Yaxinia Diaz, director of Human Resources of the MEP, declared that teachers are protesting for issues that are being discussed in the Legislative Assembly and even though there are internal problems, the institution has always been willing to dialogue.

The MEP official asked parents to send their children to school because teachers and officials from the Ministry must fulfill their job responsibilities, otherwise each Regional Directorate Circuit Supervisor will collect information on teachers who are absent to determine if a reduction in their salaries is possible.

Ricardo Molina, president of APSE, stated that the MEP has not solved some internal problems. Among them, the call for guards, security assistants, janitors, etc. to work only 40 hours instead of 48 hours as they currently do. In addition, teachers that work in State-subsidized private schools are not seen as public employees.
