Pre-trial detention for Campos Mendoza

September 1, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The only suspect of murdering an 8-year-old child in Guácimo will spend the next 6 months in pre-trial detention.

Campos Mendoza, 23, was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of killing a child, who was beheaded and mutilated.

The Criminal Court of Pococí welcomed the actions conducted by the Deputy Prosecutor and considered it is a reasonable period in prison while the investigation and the trial are prepared.

the prosecution confirmed that there are 2 other accusations against the subject: one for alleged sexual abuse and one for attempting abuse.

According to the information provided by the prosecution, last Saturday, at around 4:00 pm, the child asked his parents for permission to go to a friend’s house. However, after two hours, the child hadn’t returned, so his father went to look for him in the house he was supposed to be; however, the family informed him that the child never arrived.

After looking for him near the area, one person told the father he saw the boy entering Campos’ house. When the father and some neighbors went to the suspect’s house, there was no one inside and they found traces of blood.

Immediately, the security forces, the Red Cross and neighbors started looking for the child, but unfortunately, at 8:00 pm, they found the body of the victim in a river that ran behind the suspect’s house.

Campos was found on Sunday morning.
