The road works on La Trocha are still in blueprint

September 7, 2016 by Staff News Writer

By the end of 2016, a total of 54,3 km of the road between Los Chiles-Río Infiernito at 1856 national route should be constructed, or so was established in the National Development Plan 2015-2018. However there hasn´t been any progress.

The road is 63,4 km and is 41% of La Trocha border in which at least 20 billion Colones were spent. The route was made with the aim of “protecting national sovereignty” after the alleged invasion of Nicaragua to Isla Portillos sector.

This route is considered a key access to the northern region of the country, but the construction of the road has stagnated in recent years, although since 2012 the administrative procurement processes to complete it have been made.

According to the Comptroller General of the Republic, the situation is due to the untimely delivery of strategic information by National Roads (CONAVI) to the contractor and the lag in the review and approval of progress reports by the Administration.
