CNE has spent 222 million colones in migrants

The money used to assist migrants located in Peñas Blancas and Paso Canoas, comes from several State Institutions such as the National Emergency Commission (CNE). According to the CNE, since April they have spent 222 million colones on food, sleeping mats, portable toilets, mobile shower facilities, kitchen, pipelines, among many other things that the migrant population needs

According to Minister of Communication Mauricio Herrera, resources from other institutions such as Migration, Foreign Ministry, Security Ministry, the Presidency itself, among others, has not been quantified.

In addition, people have made donations, so that, the country doesn’t spend a lot of money. The Minister of Communication announced that the United States has donated nearly 100 tents and other authorities have greatly helped Costa Rica.

According to data from the government, almost 11,000 migrants has entered the country in the last 5 months.

On September 27th, the Executive Branch announced the opening of a care center for migrants in Santa Cecilia de La Cruz in Guanacaste, which will accommodate up to a thousand people. The place was offered at no cost by Stockbreeder Chamber.

There are currently 4,500 migrants in Costa Rica waiting for a resolution.

As part of the possible solutions, two Haitians have already been deported to their country and there are eight more waiting for a final decision. In addition, the Government is appealing to voluntary returning as an alternative.
