3 changes in your life style that could prevent breast cancer

October 7, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Specialists from the American Institute of Cancer Research, located in the United States, estimate that women could prevent about a third of cases of breast cancer with 3 changes in their lifestyles.

Alice Bender, director of the nutrition programs from the Institute, explained that these three changes are: weight control, exercise and a reduction in alcohol consumption.

-Healthy Weight: about 20% of cases of breast cancer are related to body fat. In addition, according to Bender, overweight and obesity increase the risk of suffering from 10 more cancers.

-Physical activity: do at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity every day because it helps to improve weight and the immune system.

-Avoid alcohol or drink in moderation: even regular, small amounts of alcohol increase the risk of suffering from breast cancer. Women who drink, should limit their alcohol intake to one drink a day.

October is the month to raise awareness about breast cancer, which is diagnosed in a thousand of Costa Ricans every year and it claims the life of a woman every day in the country.
