Monkey was rescued at CCSS Office in Poás

October 12, 2016 by Staff News Writer

A female howler monkey that arrived on Tuesday morning at the branch of the Costa Rican Social Security Fund in Poás de Alajuela, was rescued by the fire brigade.

The animal was discovered at 11:53 a.m. at the gates of the administrative offices and was taken to Zoo Ave.

Karen Sibaja, veterinary from the rescue center in La Garita, said that this is an adult female in good conditions and that they will analyze it to determine whether she is a free animal or a captive one, because she was seen alone in a populated place and they usually move in packs.

Once the respective tests are performed, they will decide whether to release it or relocate it, although it would not be in Zoo Ave, because the place does not have these specimens and these are animals with strong group bonds.
