The ro-ro ferry between Costa Rica and El Salvador hasn’t started operations yet

October 12, 2016 by Staff News Writer

In August, president of the Republic Luis Guillermo Solís, announced that the ro-ro ferry between El Salvador and Costa Rica would operate in September. However, until now, it has not started operations yet.

According to Emmanuel Hess, general manager of the Center for Productivity of Georgia Tech, it is important to start operations because the importer is interested in timely, predictable and reliable transfers.

The delay in the implementation of the project concerns Georgia Tech because of the valuable time they lose when transporting goods.

It is estimated that a container takes 3 to 5 days to move by land between Costa Rica and El Salvador, but by using this ferry, delivert time would be reduced to just 16 hours. On the other hand, 12 Salvadoran companies and 9 Costa Rican companies have already guaranteed their participation in the project.
