Road closure on Virilla bridge, San José-Alajuela direction

October 13, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The repairs of a slab surface on the bridge Virilla General Cañas forced the closure of the passage in San José-Alajuela direction, from 10:00 p.m. October 13th until 5:00 a.m. on October 14th.

Due to weather conditions in the cantonal border between San José and Heredia, last night the workers were unable to perform the preventive work. Therefore, the repairs will now be performed at the bridge Juan Pablo II and the access towards Mexico Hospital, forcing the road closure.

Authorities from the National Roads explained that if the works concluded earlier, they will reopen de road.

The immediate alternative route, in this case, is the National Road 3 between Pozuelo and Jardines del recuerdo, and from there to Lagunilla to the junction of Petrol Station One, to reconnect with General Cañas and Castella Conservatory. You can also follow Barreal towards Cenada and La Aurora to the junction of the Real Cariari.

The 160 meter-long bridge is undergoing reinforcement and extension, with an investment of ¢ 7,345 million.
