Ash is emanating from Turrialba volcano

October 18, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Turrialba volcano keeps emanating ash and it is reaching almost a thousand meters high.

Eliecer Duarte, expert from the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI) declared that this is the state of the volcano at the moment, but that they cannot determine when it started because their seismographs are damaged.

He affirmed that the wind direction is towards the northeast, which means that the protected area of Braulio Carrillo National Park will be very affected by the ash.

Duarte expressed that they intend to fix the equipment this week, but it is stuck in the ash, which is causing its malfunction.
