March is Government’s deadline to get the tax projects ready

October 20, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Executive is taking it easy with the designing of the schedule for the list of priority projects that they want the Legislative Assembly to swiftly approve.

The four government priority projects are: the public limited companies Act, the limits on extra wages, the Fiscal Rule, which is looking to put a limit on the growth of public spending and the draft of Added Value Tax.

The schedule is marked by a practical and political necessity. It is not a secret that next year is a pre election year, and after April it will be very difficult to talk about these projects,”

explained Luis Paulino Mora, Vice Minister of the Presidency for the legislative affairs.

The public limited companies Act is the number one on the list, and even today is uncertain the order of the others, but it is clear that by March the government needs that process to be done.

The possibility that Costa Rica could join the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is one of the things being considered by the Government, because OECD pays special attention to the tax status of its members.

The Legislative Assembly´s fractions have varying opinions on the fast track process. Liberación Nacional agrees and would give their votes to do it that way. Movimiento Libertario is against it and PAC is divided.
