Children learn about the value of food with games

October 24, 2016 by Staff News Writer

By inventing superheroes with vegetables and creating thousands of adventures, dozens of children learn about the value of food and food security.

This project was born of a young mind, and this week it was highlighted by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

For Salomón Sayago, many people still underestimate the key role that the field and farmers should play in food security of the inhabitants of the planet.

Because of this, he designed a fun class to teach children in school about the importance of agro-biodiversity in planting and nutrition and to highlight the value of seeds, as well as healthy diets and reintegration of food in disuse.

My approach is to sensitize children from first to third grade so that they are the ones who shake up the current trend of agricultural production that aims to prefer one variety and reject others, placing them in the lines of food insecurity,”

said Sayago.

Salomón’s idea began as a project requirement for the International Baccalaureate, however, he was able to put it in motion in his school, with such acceptance, that he is recruiting other students, other generations, so that the project consolidates and extends for many years in his school, and also reaches other schools.
