A bill aims to guarantee the financing of INCOFER

March 17, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Legislators from different legislative factions presented a bill to guarantee the financing of the Costa Rican Railway Institute (INCOFER).

The initiative includes the financing chapters that were excluded during the process and approval of the Strengthening INCOFER Law and Promotion of the Electric Train in 2016.

Marco Vinicio Redondo, legislator from Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC), explained that the proposal would guarantee the necessary resources to improve rail transport infrastructure.

The initiative contemplates three mechanisms to grant new resources to Incofer:

-5% of the property tax on vehicles.
-8% of the selective consumption tax on vehicles.
-Single contribution of ¢ 500 million from the Road Safety Fund to INCOFER.
