A complaint was filed for alleged lack of pension funds at the Bar Association

December 15, 2016 by Staff News Writer

A group of lawyers denounced on December 14th the alleged absence of the pension fund of the Bar Association, which should have been established since 1963.

According to lawyers Didier Carranza and Mario Piedra, since 1964 a stamp was approved and it was going to be used for the lawyers’ pension, but to date there are only 50 applications for pensions. And apparently there is no record of a lawyer who has received the benefit.

We filed a complaint for alleged misappropriation of funds. It is striking that the Bar Association said that it is impossible to give any information. We want to know what the money is used for, “

said Carranza.

In theory, the Bar Association receives more than 1,6 billion colones annually (data from 2014), but no information regarding the money is available, as stated by the complainants.
