A dog dies defending his owner on an assault

May 26, 2016 by Staff News Writer

A dog was shot while trying to defend his owner while his store was being robbed, and it couldn’t be saved of its wounds.

On the assault, the dog’s owner was injured too. The man went to seek medical attention and couldn’t find anyone to take his dog to the vet, according the owner.

Since the attack happened on Saturday, the dog’s owner couldn’t find an open vet’s office at Barrancas in Puntarenas and he couldn’t find someone who would help him to take his pet to Heredia.

Early Monday, the man took Tor, an American Stafford, to the animals rescue center Animal Shelter Costa Rica, located in Heredia.

Joana Rueda, the rescue worker, said the dog entered a shock four hours later after being treated. Tor had shot wounds in one leg and inside a lung. Emergency personal tried to stabilize it to remove the bullets, however, the dog couldn’t make it.

Rueda claims Tor might have saved if it had received medical attention earlier.
