A dog was raped and attacked by a man in San José

December 19, 2016 by Staff News Writer

A video started circulating on Facebook: it showed a man mistreating an American Stanford dog in Higuito de Desamparados.

The man was punching the animal to keep it away. He hit the dog’s face and knock it down. After seeing the video, a woman decided to travel from Puntarenas to rescue it.

Her name is Marcela Gen and she stated that once she saw the video she did not hesitate to go to San José to assist the dog. She found it tied up with an electric wire in a vacant lot.

It had many fleas, I took it to the vet and I was told that the dog had been raped: it had lesions in the anus, which was very swollen. It also has burns in the body, bruises on the ears, cuts on the face and it is malnourished,

informed the woman.

Dayana Bonilla was alerted of the situation and she declared that apparently the attacker owns a grocery store in the area and he often attacks animals. According to the woman, the neighbors denounced that there are 5 more dogs under attack.

She informed that the owner and other people meet and hit the dogs, apparently for being under the influence of alcohol.

We are collecting the evidence to file a complaint,

said Bonilla.

The American Stanford is already stable and being treated to recover completely.
