A fire is reported in the country every six hours

March 28, 2017 by Staff News Writer

So far this year, the Fire Department has received a fire alert somewhere in the country every six hours.

During the first 86 days of the year, more than 300 structural fires have been put out in homes, shops, industries or warehouses.

Javier Castro, head of Plans and Operations of the entity, said that the emergency care in these months already exceeds 20 thousand cases.

We have lots of forests bordering with properties and illegal electrical installations. We also have very handcrafted gas facilities, which is very worrying because the statistics continue to increase and we believe that this year emergencies will increase even more,”

said Castro.

Forest fires top the list of emergencies with 5,428 cases, followed by animal incidents with 2,049 cases and 1,632 of short circuits, and finally 842 emergencies due to liquefied petroleum gas leaks.

There have also been 110 false alarms, 743 traffic accidents and 212 vehicles on fire.
