A legal reform aims to promote energy efficiency

A legal reform aims to promote energy efficiency and the rational use of energy in the country.

The proposal, which includes several changes to the Law on the Rational Use of Energy, was presented by legislators Marcela Guerrero and Franklin Corella.

Some of the reforms are as follow:

-Energy distributors’ obligation to establish rational use programs for end users with rate financing.
-Provision of information for energy planning.
-Education for cultural change.
-Obligation to put energy information in the products labeling for consumer’s protection.
-Attributions to the Executive Power to regulate the energy efficiency of public institutions.
-Promotion and short-term incentives for the most efficient groups.
