A police officer was part of a gang that stole vehicles

November 4, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) confirmed that the security forces’ police officer linked to a car-theft gang had been working for the institution for 8 years.

Castillo Meléndez is 33 years old and he worked along with 2 other subjects under this criminal scheme.

Pablo Calvo, head of the OIJ in Heredia, reported that authorities found important evidence at the suspect’s home.

Apparently, the group stole the cars to offer them to other interested groups, that sold them as spare parts.

The OIJ is investigating whether this group is linked with at least 5 other similar cases.

The raids were conducted in Belén de Heredia and San Joaquín de Flores.
