So far this year, the National Coast Guard has rescued 25 turtles from being butchered in different parts of the country. The most recent case took place in Barra de Pacuare, Limón on Wednesday night.

These animals are hunted by unscrupulous people in order to sell and consume their meat. As consequence, authorities are constantly operating in the area.

According to the Ministry of Public Security (MPS), hunters are usually residents of nearby villages.

The rescued turtle was tied up and ready to be butchered. Authorities released it by the sea.
