Abangares’ aqueduct will be renewed

July 26, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Yanina Soto, Institute for Municipal Development’s executive director, announced that Abangares’ aqueduct will be improved.

Improvements in the aqueduct are meant to provide water to more than 18,000 inhabitants. IFAM is planning to build a water intake structure between Gongolona gorge and Boston gorge confluence and the water conduction pipelines to a new desander.

The construction of a 600-cubic-meter distribution tank is also planned as well as the renovation of the water treatment plant.

Arturo Herrera, IFAM’s engineer in charge of the project, explained that the current infrastructure was built 30 years ago with materials that are no longer used, so pipes are constantly sliding or uncoupling.

More than 4.3 kilometers of water distribution pipelines will also be replaced.
