Accumulated inflation got to the Central Bank’s target range

December 8, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Last November, cumulative inflation – measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI) – amounted to 2.09%. With this figure, the indicator got to the target range of the Central Bank, which ranges from 2% to 4% for 2017.

According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC), the eleventh month of the year recorded an increase in the general price level of 0.16%.

Out of the 315 goods and services that make up the consumer basket, 48% increased in price, while 40% showed a decrease and 12% did not change.

The goods and services that recorded the largest increases last month were potatoes, onions and tomatoes. On the other hand, gasoline, cilantro and soft drinks fell in price.

When analyzing the percentage variations in the prices of the twelve groups that make up the index, the Food and non-alcoholic beverages group has the greatest effect on the variation of the general index.

The variation estimated from December 2016 to November 2017 reached 2.49%.
