After ending 2015 with a 28 billion colones deficit, la Compañía Nacional de Fuerza y Luz (CNFL) hopes to end 2016 with positive numbers.
Last year’s deficit was caused by the fare non-compensation applied by Autoridad Reguladora de Servicios Públicos (ARESEP), which authorized higher fares for Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) but made CNFL keep the same fare for four years.
In 2014, CNFL ended the year with a 7 billion deficit. At the time, the culprits were bad management and risk investments.
To revert this situation, the management launched a plan with a social pact (voluntary mobility, linear calculation of the annuity, reduced contribution to the savings fund, the solidarity association and extra hours), which allowed to save 8 million colones in 2015.
For 2016, they expect to save 9,3 million.
