An immense layer of floating plastic and polystyrene wastes alerted the inhabitants of the tourist islands of Roatan and Cayos on the Caribbean coast of Honduras.
Caroline Power, an American photographer living in the area, documented the visible consequences of this garbage pollution in an area near a reef zone.
According to the organization Blue Planet Society, it is presumed that all this waste arrives to the sea from a river that is born in Guatemala and that receives clandestine dumps and residues throughout its passage until the mouth. However, they have not been able to confirm this.

According to research by the international conservation organization 5Gyres, the amount of plastic found in the oceans is enough to trace the way to the moon, back and forth, twice.
Five years ago the organization determined that there are more than 269,000 metric tons and 5.25 trillion plastic particles in the oceans, enough to travel that route.
