Alert due to fake medicines in the country

December 2, 2016 by Staff News Writer

A patient in Buenos Aires de Puntarenas entered a pharmacy suffering from much pain and asked the manager to inject him a Neurobion ampoule.

However, the trained eye of the manager stopped her when she noticed that the medicine label was completely different from the one used in the Costa Rican market.

In fact, it turned out to be a fake medicine that is being sold in Costa Rica and that the patient bought to a street vendor.

The fake medicine comes in a yellow pouch and the real one is sold in a white box.

The medicine combines B vitamins and it’s used in the treatment of health problems such as alcoholism or diabetes. But people usually buy it to treat painful conditions such as low back pain and neuralgia (pain in a nerve).

With such a product, the Health Authorities do not give any assurance of its safety, quality or efficiency because they can’t trust that the manufacturers are complying with the right manufacturing, storage, transport and handling.

If you come across the fake one, please report it. You can go to the nearest Rector’s Health Area or send an email to dac.denuncias@misalud.go.cr
