Almost 3,000 students affected by Nate will receive scholarship

October 12, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A total of 2,765 students affected by Storm Nate will receive a monthly subsidy from the National Fund of Scholars (Fonabe), so they can replace their basic school supplies and thus successfully complete the school year.

The scholarship granted will be ¢36,300 monthly, for three months, which will be deposited in November, retroactively to the month of October.

The Board of Directors of Fonabe agreed to reassign extraordinary resources for emergency care, thanks to the authorization of the General Directorate of Family Assignments (Desaf) to use the resources of its fund.

In total, ¢301 million will be allocated to these students.

Fonabe has the Risk Management in disaster-emergency fund since 2009. However, due to the recent meteorological phenomena, these had already been almost completely used.

A group of Fonabe officials will be moved to different affected areas to collect the beneficiaries’ lists. This work will be carried out with the support of the Regional Education Directorates.
