Alvarado promises more presence in rural communities from July

June 26, 2018 by Staff News Writer

In his first 50 days as President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado has not left San José nor has he had any contact with the rural communities of the country. However he will leave for the Dominican Republic this Friday.

Alvarado will has visited other countries more than the coastal provinces, where the strongest problems of unemployment, inequality, and insecurity within the national territory are concentrated.

When asked about this matter on Tuesday, the Minister of Communication, Juan Carlos Mendoza, did not explain the reason behind the absence of the president in the provinces of Limón, Puntarenas and Guanacaste. Mendoza only assured that starting next month, Alvarado will visit these regions.

Last Friday, the Minister of the Presidency, Rodolfo Piza, had to travel to Puntarenas to calm the mood of that province in the face of problems of insecurity and unemployment.

The minister went with a government delegation in response to the demands of a group of fishermen who went on hunger strike in the outskirts of the Presidency in the absence of employment opportunities after the ban on trawling as a productive activity.
