Álvarez offers to “abolish” the use of oil by 2040

September 27, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The National Liberation Party (PLN) presidential candidate, Antonio Álvarez Desanti, announced ON Tuesday that he will commit to Zapote to stop Costa Rica’s use of hydrocarbons by 2040.

The candidate announced that the ban on the importation of vehicles that burn hydrocarbons will be in force after 2035.

According to Álvarez, the change in the energy matrix will help generate the jobs that have been lost after “the recession caused by the current government.”

The businessman and ex-legislator recalled that in 1948 the country renounced the army and since then allocated more resources to education, and this inspired him to announce the new proposal.

Álvarez Desanti acknowledged that the original idea came from a proposal by the former president José Maréa Figueres, its contender in the primary elections.

It is a contribution to the new generations have less pollution, he concluded. The proposal counted on the advice of former legislator Maureen Ballestero and engineer José Dengo.

In the current period, the Legislative Assembly moved forward to pass a law that encourages and promotes electric transportation through exonerations, incentives, privileges and new state responsibilities.
