American citizen tried to smuggle drugs through Juan Santamaría Airport

January 24, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Drug Control Police (PCD) officers caught an American from California with a load of marijuana extract inside the luggage at the Juan Santamaría airport in Alajuela, on Tuesday afternoon.

The 24-year-old suspect named Trague traveled from San Francisco to Houston to San José. PCD agents confiscated 991 grams of marijuana (marijuana extract, wax or resin), 282 pipettes of marijuana resin, as well as $ 65 in cash.

The Public Security authorities indicate that the importance of this case is that the transfer of drugs occurred from the United States to Costa Rica. This type of drug is legal in some States of that country.

Electronic cigarettes are known to have become an alternative to tobacco use. However, apparently marijuana users have used them as a means to consume the drug to avoid being detected by others.
