American sportswomen encourage young women from vulnerable areas

April 1, 2019 by Staff News Writer

At least 230 Costa Rican youth living in areas of social risk participated in training provided by two female sports figures from the United States, footballers and coaches Kacey White and Amanda Cromwell, prominent in the US, who visited the country last week.

They held soccer clinics whose goal is to empower women in vulnerable areas of San José and Talamanca. They also show football as an option for growth and progress.

Both White and Cromwell use this sport to carry a message of empowerment to women.

It was a fantastic experience. We had a class in the morning, where we had fun. They wanted to learn and we played soccer,”

said Cromwell.

She added that women who are selected to participate in women’s soccer have great opportunities to obtain scholarships and play professionally.

The athlete thanked the Embassy of the United States in Costa Rica, the Saprissa Foundation and a donation of balls from Spirit.

White said it was a wonderful experience, because women’s soccer has many chances of success in the world.
