An American consular official was shot in Mexico

January 9, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The Mexican Attorney General and US authorities reported that an American consular official was shot in Guadalajara. They are offering $ 20,000 for the capture of the assailant.

According to a video on the Facebook page of the diplomatic delegation, the attack occurred at around 6:20 pm (local time) on January 6th, outside a small shopping area of Guadalajara: the official, whose identity and function at the Consulate have not been clarified, was leaving a shopping center on his car. The Attorney General’s Office informed that the victim had gunshot wounds. He is stable.

Jalisco state prosecutor Eduardo Almaguer told reporters that it was a direct assault with a gun caliber .380.

An US government source told AFP that the victim is vice-consul and they ignore that reasons for the attack.

A spokesman from the US embassy said in a brief statement that they are working with Mexican authorities in the investigation of the case, but they declined to give more information because of privacy issues.
