An error delays the session of the Tax Reform Commission

August 28, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Once again, the legislators of the Special Commission of the Fiscal Plan decided to adjourn the session where the motions presented to the substitute text of the bill for Strengthening Public Finances would move forward in the Legislative Assembly. This time it was because the call to the session was held on Tuesday morning, but it should be done 24 hours in advance.

Carlos Avendaño, from National Restoration, thought it was not appropriate to hold sessions. The leader of the evangelical party pointed out that the procedure could have been flawed and that all the progress on the subject of the tax plan could have been lost because of this.

The congressmen chose to ask the staff of the Technical Services department of the Legislative Assembly. They confirmed that this period was required for the call.

Welmer Ramos, president of the legislative forum, informed the legislators they will return to session next Tuesday starting at 9:15 am and in the evening, five minutes after the end of the Legislative Plenary.

This way, the Government earns a week to seek a negotiation for 2% tax on the basic basket and private education.
