Anti-riot forces intervened with tear gas in Puntarenas

October 3, 2018 by Staff News Writer

A group of protesters blocked the road on the bridge over the Mata de Limón estuary in Puntarenas on Wednesday afternoon. Therefore, officers of the Public Force intervened with tear gas in the sector to clear the road, which caused traffic jams from the Orotina crossing to the entrance of Puntarenas in both directions.

According to the press office of the Ministry of Public Security, the use of tear gas was necessary because people were obstructing the passage and refused to hear their warning.

Jorge Matamoros, Puntarenas Regional Operational Coordinator, said that after the intervention with gas, a minor had to be assisted.

Although there are many people affected, we have only seen a 7-year-old boy who was scared more than anything,”

said Matamoros.
