Antibiotics and antivirals would be sold with a digital prescription

October 4, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The Ministry of Health wants antibiotics, antivirals and antifungals to be sold only with a digital prescription.

For this reason, they consulted the “Regulation for the surveillance and control of the use of medicines and their application with the digital prescription system” which intends that medicines that are sold today in the pharmacy under medical prescription, be extended by digital prescription, in order to have a record of the consumption made by the population.

Currently, psychotropic and narcotic drugs require a digital prescription for sale.

This does not mean that the population will require a medical consultation and a digital prescription for what some drugs they normally buy at a pharmacy. There are over-the-counter medications that will continue in this way, ”

explained Daniel Salas, Minister of Health.

According to Salas, it has been proven that excessive use of these drugs generates resistance to microbes that prevent them from having an adequate effect.
