Arguedas: “Solís is turning the blind eye”

February 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Legislators from different political parties criticized the millionaire overpayment to three vice-ministers because they didn’t meet the requirements.

Partido de Liberación Nacional parliamentary fraction urged the Comptroller General of the Republic and the Office of the Public Ethics Prosecutor to investigate the overpayments made to vice-ministers Carmen Muñoz, Ana Cristina Trejos and Ana Gabriel Zúñiga.

Legislator Jorge Arguedas, from Frente Amplio, criticized the overpayments and accused president Luis Guillermo Solís of turning the blind eye.

In 2015, it was reported that Muñoz had received ¢ 11 million more in her salary, for almost a year. In addition Trejos had received ¢ 10.8 million for the same incentive since 2014 and on February 20th, it was informed that Zúñiga has received more than ¢ 30 million for the same bonus.

Muñoz and Trejos are in the process of returning the money.

The liberationists also demanded president Luis Guillermo Solis to immediately act to avoid making new mistakes that have allowed them to collect millions of colones without being entitled to them.

Legislator Karla Garments described the situation as “an administrative horror” and a reflection of corruption in Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC).

Marcela Guerrero, from the PAC, said that the three hierarchs should explain everything.

Legislator Ottón Solís, from the PAC, said that the President should immediately dismissed Muñoz and Trejos, but he thinks Zúñiga’s case is different.

Zúñiga’s case is different. I think she has a right, she has a bachelor’s degree in Law, she is graduated and there have been resolutions from the Office of the Attorney General that allow them to have these pluses,

declared the official.
